Ask and Answer (#2)

The first Ask and Answer last week went awesome. Thank you all so much for your support! Back today with more answers. If you’d like to ask your own question, you can do so here. (and yes, I still had to correct those anwser)

And as much as it looks like it, no I didn’t just copy and paste that answer from last week. I don’t think I know how to write anything without romance in it. Love is part of life, whether it is siblings, parent/child, friends, romanctic, ect. For me, that means it’s a big part of my books. It was hard with Serena though, she’s been through so much and takes the brunt of everything. She needs time to heal and learn to love.

Mine to Spell, I think at least, contains more romance than You Are Mine. It will still be more of a subplot, but Cynthia isn’t as closed off which means love has an easier time happening. Notice that was easier, not easy? These poor girls just struggle with love. But then, don’t we all?

  • What are you working on next, writing wise? ~T.F. Walsh

Great question! Mostly things related to the Mine Series. The secret Mine project is very close to being ready to pass off to a critique partner. Once it’s done, I’ll start my next round of edits on Mine to Spell, probably next week.

When I have time (ha, ha, ha) I do a little work on a manuscript called Ever Darkening, a YA Fantasy/Utopian. I haven’t had as much time for this one since I know everyone is anxious for Mine to Spell, but it’s an idea I love. I really want you guys to be able to read it and not just have it playing out in my head. Plus, I just got a new, exciting idea for it so I try to sneak it in when I can.

  • When is the squeal coming out? ~Anonymous

Even though this is asked by anonymous, I can safely say there are many of you out there who have asked as well. As you can tell from the above answer, I’m working on it. I haven’t got detailed notes on it yet, but initial feedback is looking really good. I’m going to be brave and say less than a year from when You Are Mine launched. This is not set in stone, people. But hopefully it’s sooner. Like I’ve mentioned before, there should be something more concrete in a month or so.

BUT…if you want to be sure you know when the sequel is released, on Wednesday I announced a way to keep track. Mine Series Notification. If you didn’t already see, basically you can sign up and an email will be sent within a week of Mine related books being released, probably the day before or day of release.

  • Where did you get your inspiration for the world? It was so fascinating. And the ideas for all the fab dresses Katherine designed throughout the book for Serena. ~Rachel @ The Rest is Still Unwritten

I started answering this and went on and on and on. The answer is so complex and can go so many ways, so I decided to do a bonus Ask and Answer session. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting how I got inspiration for the clothing, cultures, and magic for Chardonia. Thanks for such a great idea, Rachel!

Thanks again for joining me! Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Mine Series Notification

The question I get asked the most is “When is your next book going to be out?”

Makes me do this: 😀  …and then want to go write faster.

I don’t have an answer for you yet. Yes, I have a pretty good idea of when I want it to happen, but there’s a lot of factors that can change. Hopefully details in the next month or so. Until then know I’m working as fast as I can. For now I have something I think will help. Mine Series Notification.

If you’re one of those who enjoyed You Are Mine and want to know when the next book is coming out, sign up and an email will be sent within a week of a new book being released. Most likely the day before or day of release.

Please Note: I will only ever use this to contact you for a book release in the Mine world.

Ask and Answer (#1)

Thrilled to do the first Ask and Answer! Funny tidbit, I can’t spell answer. I always type anwser and have to spell check it. Story teller I am, good speller I am not. On to questions today coming from Christy.

  • Will the story continue? ~Christy B

The story will most definitely continue. Book #2, Mine to Spell, is with one of my critique partners right now hopefully getting ripped to shreds. I don’t have any release details or blurb yet, but I can say it’s from Cynthia’s perspective.

There will be four books in the Mine series, with some extras along the way. If you’d like to see how things are coming along you can check my Works in Progress page. I try to update it regularly.

  • Would you ever consider putting  Zade’s (or the male of “interest” ) thoughts into a chapter? ~Christy B

I would consider it and if fact have already tried working on some scenes to giveaway as extras. There’s so many great things that happen from his perspective. Specific scenes I’m thinking of:

****Contains Spoiler Bits for You Are Mine****

When Zade kills Thomas, the whole scene and the bit that follows–just thinking about it has me wanting to go try and write it again. Also the scene in the library when Serena is trying to hide–Zade is so befuddled by her behavior, I’d love to put it to words and explore what he goes through more. The whole ball scene as well. There’s not as many new thoughts there, but I think seeing the whole scene play out from Zade’s perspective would be interesting. There’s others I’d like as well, but those are my top choices.

****End of Spoiler Bits for You Are Mine****

But alas! He is being quiet stubborn and giving me lots of grief. Nothing is working out very well so far, but I will continue to try because I would love for you know more about Zade. I woke up this morning able to write a few lines from him so it may just need some patience.

What do you think? Are there any scenes you’d like to see from Zade’s point of view?

Thanks for your questions, Christy!

Come back next Friday for more answers, and ask questions of your own.

Also, don’t forget that you can sign up to join the street team for the Mine Series.

Back Online – Bookmark Winners

Hi Everyone! Back online from my almost two week break and feel fantastic. Sometimes it’s just good to get away. Plus I came back to the lovely surprise of having You Are Mine hit some top #100 lists on Amazon. Still trying to process the goodness. Thank you so much for making this happen! And if you took the time to write a review, answer the questionnaire, or tell me how much you loved You Are Mine in some way —

Thank You!

I can’t even begin to describe the joy it brings to me hear your thoughts. For anyone that asked me a question, I will be posting answers here every Friday. Didn’t get a chance to fill out the questionnaire? No worries, you can still Ask and Answer!

Rachel and Christy B

How were your last two weeks? Do anything fun? Are you looking forward to the weekend?

Offline and Ask Me Anything

The past 4-6 weeks have been pretty crazy around here so it’s time for a little break. Seriously, my dreams now include tweeting, facebooking, emailing, and blog commenting. Love all these things, but prefer to keep my dreams a little more adventurous–spies, assassins, swoon, and the like. 😉

I will be offline May 19th – May 31st. Even though I won’t be on the internet, I still have something fun planned! Ask me anything you want. When I get back online, I will be answering your questions. Feel free to leave any thoughts in the comments or fill out the the form.

 You Are Mine Questionnaire

And to make it even more fun, a random person or people who fill out the form will be chosen to win You Are Mine bookmarks. The number I giveaway will directly correlate to how many people fill out the form. The more people that fill it out, the higher % given away. So if you want a bookmark tweet/share/talk others into filling it out.

Hope you all have a fantastic twoish weeks!

You Are Mine Swag Winner

Thank you all so much for your support and enthusiasm for You Are Mine and fun swag! I’m so glad that I didn’t have to pick the winner because I wouldn’t have been able to choose. You are all so fantastic! Sadly, there can only be one. The winner is…

#94 – Danielle!

Swag Luana won!
Swag Danielle won!

Congratulations! She has 24 hours to respond to the email or a new winner will be chosen.

For those of you that didn’t win, can I ask a huge favor? If you haven’t already done so, would you please consider purchasing a copy of You Are Mine? And if you have already read it, would you tell someone about it today? Truthfully I hate to ask (makes me feel all awkward and weird), but the support would really help to fund future books.

And now that that awkward bit is over — Happy Wednesday! How’s your week going so far? Over here it’s good, but much too hot for May. Have a fabulous day!

Chardonian Hot Chocolate

On Tuesday I promised more details about why I’m giving away a mug, and here we are. I know it’s getting to be the warm season when hot drinks are being overtaken by icy cold ones, but I’m a rebel. I drink hot chocolate any time of the year, and so does the main character, Serena, in You Are Mine. Except I don’t drinhotchocolatek the same type of hot chocolate as her. Mine is the regular hot chocolate like you can make with a mix. Hers is a hot chocolate, thick and rich, made only from scratch. It’s almost pudding like. And I thought, wouldn’t it be fun if I could make her hot chocolate? Yes, it would! I spent the winter figuring out this recipe. Let me tell you, it was one of my favorite writing related projects yet. The recipe below is fairly simple, just requires patient.

Also, I no longer like hot chocolate from a mix. I’ve been ruined to the easy hot chocolate life.

This could be your hot chocolate mug!

Don’t forget that you can win a mug to use for this rich recipe (or whatever else you like), along with bookmarks and a signed paperback of You Are Mine. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it’s a good sized mug. I’m quite in love with it. ♥

Giveaway now closed.

Chardonian Hot Chocolate Recipe:

In a large sauce pan mix —

2/3 C. Sugar

3 T. Cornstarch

1/2 C. Cocoa powder

Dash of Salt

Add  —

1/2 C. Water

Turn on medium low heat and stir until the mixture dissolves. Don’t wait too long or your cornstarch will start to thicken and you’ll have a harder time getting a nice, smooth consistency. Once dissolved, slowly add while whisking–

1 C. Milk

Then whisk in —

2 C. Milk

Turn to medium heat (I usually go one tick above medium) and stir constantly for about 5-10 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the mixture thickens. Do not boil.

Take off of heat, pour in your favorite mug, and enjoy!

*Note: Will thicken more as it cools. Also, it easily develops a skin so I like to keep a spoon in it as I drink and give it a little stir every once in a while. Optional: You may use less cornstarch or add more milk if you want it to not be quite so thick.

The Girl Who Published a Novel (Plus Giveaway!)

Let’s start with a little story. *passes out snacks* And stay tuned (or skip ahead) after the credits for a giveaway!

Once upon a time there was a girl who decided to self-publish her novel. The girl loved her novel and the way she felt about it was like she’d felt about no other book she’d written before. But the girl did a lot of research. The realities were kind of depressing. After much thinking, the girl decided depressing realities were fine, she’d just adjust her goal to fit reality. It was a good goal. Nice and small, fitting given the research. The girl thought she’d have to work hard to make it happen within the first three to six months. So she set out to do the best she could.

Yesterday, the girl officially published her novel. The girl was happy as several book sales happened. Then happiness turned to surprise when more happened. Then surprise into downright shock as she met her goal in one day. As the day drew to a close the girl wept tears of gratitude and joy as her goal was surpassed.

Today, the girl is giving something back. She doesn’t know what else the future will bring, but she does know she’s so very, very grateful for those who not only purchased the book, but loved it, rated it, reviewed it, and sometimes reviewed it on more than one site. And the girl is happy.

Also, the girl decided to do away with her expectations.

The End.

*roll credits*

*after the credits bonus*

As this was all happening, both yesterday and as interest increased last week, I decided I wanted to give something back. I was originally planning on giving swag and ebooks away today, but your enthusiasm and support has made it so I can giveaway something special. Along with signed bookmarks and a mug (more about said mug on Friday!), I am giving away a signed paperback of You Are Mine.

I’m so thrilled to be able to do this. With my minuscule budget, it’s a rare thing, but one I hope can be repeated in the future. For now, I hope that you will all enter. And it would make me so, super happy if you would spread the word. You Are Mine has done well, but to continue doing well, it needs a lot of love and support. If you haven’t bought it, would you please consider doing so? And if you have purchased it, would you please consider telling a friend or leaving a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads? Thank you so, so much!
