Mine to Spell Release Date

It’s official. I’ve been working on MINE TO SPELL, book two in the MINE series, for one year today. Which doesn’t even account for all the note taking and plotting I did before officially starting to write it. This is the longest I’ve ever taken to write a book.

Honestly, it’s driving me batty. 2013 ended up being crazy year, both in my writing life and personal life, which contributed to taking longer than expected. It’s also why you haven’t seen me around as much here and on social media. I’m still lurking, but almost all my writing juice is busy elsewhere. I miss you guys! But I think we’d both rather have more books out, yes? Enough explanation, off to the fun stuff!

Everything is finally coming together, writing/editing moving along faster, feedback coming in positive, almost all the words are there, and I’m doing the polishing on it now. Which means:

MINE TO SPELL will be released May 5, 2014

Cover and description will be following in the weeks to come!

What is a Novella Anyway?

questionTruth: Before I got serious about publishing a book and began researching a lot about the industry, I had no clue what a novella was. Since I’ve announce MINE TO TARNISH, I’ve gotten a lot of people who, like me, don’t know exactly what it is.

Novella short unofficial definition: Think shorter than a novel but longer than a short story.

Novella unofficial numbers definition: It varies some depending on who you ask, but typically somewhere in the range of 15,000 — 40,000 words.

What? Word count? What about page count?

The problem with page count is it varies. A lot. Font size, style, formatting are all things that can play a part. For example, YOU ARE MINE can range anywhere from 270 to 372 pages. Same exact text, over 100 pages difference!

Whichever way you look at it, YOU ARE MINE is about 94,000 words. MINE TO TARNISH is about 29,000 words. So about one third of the size. Approximately 98-128 pages depending on the format. It’s a quick read, an evening perhaps. And it officially launches in one week!

Any questions about novellas?

Chardonian Biscuits a.k.a Biscotti

For anyone that has read You Are Mine, you know that Serena likes drinking hot chocolate, often accompanied by a biscuit.

Biscuits and chocolate. I devour them, not even taking the time to dunk the thin, sweet wafer in my thick drink.

Chardonian biscuits are a type of biscotti. If you’ve never had them before, what are you waiting for? They’re super tastySAM_0371, and I love them dipped in nice, thick Chardonian hot chocolate. The original recipe is from Allrecipes, but has been modified for a more Chardonian taste. The biggest change is using vanilla flavoring instead of anise, but if you like a licorice sort of flavoring, then by all means, go with the original recipe.

Since hot chocolate season is starting again, I thought it’d be the perfect time to share the recipe. Enjoy!

Chardonian Biscuits

Recipe derived from Biscotti Recipe on Allrecipes. They also have a video on their website that does a great job showing you how to make them.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix:

3 1/4 c. flour

1 T. baking powder

1/4 t. salt

Combine with:

1/2 c. vegetable oil

3 eggs

1 c. sugar

1 T. vanilla

Place half of the dough on a parchment lined cookie sheet in a log the length of your cookie sheet. Roll out to 1/4″ thick. Repeat with the other half on its own cookie sheet. Bake 25 minutes or until golden brown. When cool enough to touch, cut into 1/2″  sticks. Toast in the oven an additional 5-8 minutes on each of the newly cut side.

When cool enough to touch, dunk in Chardonian Hot Chocolate and enjoy!SAM_0383

Cover Reveal: Mine to Tarnish

MineToTarnish Mine to Tarnish — Available December 2nd, 2013

Description:

Katherine’s place is the same as any woman’s—on the shelf next to the dresses and bolts of cloth. When she’s sold to a warlock, life grows even bleaker. Her new owner is as old and rancid as he is cruel, driving her to do the unthinkable: run.

Nothing prepared her for being on her own. And she’s definitely unprepared for the warlocks hunting her down. But she must stay one step ahead because if caught, the best she can hope for is death.

Now we have the good stuff. A glimspe at Katherine. First, her eyes are closed. This was very intentional to represent who she is at the beginning of the book. And yes, she has a lot of eye make up. It’s hard to tell from this small peek, but she also is wearing the white face paint required of women in Chardonia. Eeek!

That’s it. Last peice. On Thursday the full cover will be reveal with help from YA Bound Tours!

Katherine would rather be killed—or worse—than belong to her new owner.

And we have a logline! My amazing critic partner, Loralie Hall, came up with this beauty and I love it! It fits the story perfectly.

Last piece is coming next Tuesday, the 24th. Then the cover will be here! Squeee!

The first thing I’m sharing is the title. It is on the place holder cover, but the one for the real cover is in the bottom left corner. This is because Katherine is on the right. And I love, love, love how she turned out! Can’t wait until you guys can see her on the 26th! Also, the background is still black. I feel this is important to mention because it won’t be for any of the future covers.

Next peice on Thursday!
